General Objectives of the EFT Externship
This is the first step towards EFT Certification
The path to EFT Certification

This training includes an overview of the entire model of Emotionally Focused Therapy including steps and stages, interventions, adult attachment theory, and application of EFT with couples and individuals. The externship is recommended for all types of mental health clinicians who counsel couples.
* To gain a clear understanding of the systemic concepts and basic experiential moves of an “Emotionally Focused Therapy” approach.
* To hold an attachment view of clients coping with their interpersonal dilemmas so you can conceptualize relationship distress and repair based on theories of attachment and emotion.
* The focus of this training is on the general model of EFT as presented in the 2019 book, Attachment Theory In Practice, and how you can implement the model in couple and individual therapy sessions.
* To provide the opportunity to develop skills in sharing, maintaining and engaging in an open and collaborative alliance with your clients.
* To develop skillful use of the 5 moves of the basic macro-intervention “the EFT tango” to improve clients’ affect regulation, models of self and others, strategies for engaging with others, and changing interactional patterns.
* To develop the ability to utilize systemic and experiential models of interventions applied as EFT micro-interventions.
* To participate in skills development to overcome common blocks and impasses across EFT therapy modalities so you can shape core corrective emotional experience that leads to constructive dependency and what we conceptualize as ‘secure attachment’.
This training is the prerequisite for all other EFT trainings.
You will receive a Certificate of Completion.

WE WELCOME THERAPISTS IN ALL THEIR DIVERSITY
ICEEFT Stance on Diversity
We aim to cultivate a climate of inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with each other. In all facets of our work we strive to embody what we hope to see in the world — a just, loving humanity and community in which people are free to be themselves fully — where people can embrace their most basic universal human attachment needs without fear of persecution or marginalization as a result of religion, race, ethnic or national origin, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, class, mental health, physical character or disability. These values are inherent in the attachment science and humanistic approach to intervention that all our work is based on.
Specifically, humanistic approaches such as EFT are collaborative and respectful. We create a safe place for people and treat them as persons, not problems or types. Our approach is non-pathologizing in practice.
Our values are inclusive and egalitarian while viewing human connection as sacred — something to be honoured and cultivated.
Our scientific and theoretical base outlines key universals, emotion and attachment, while respecting individual differences.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a certificate for completion?
There is a certificate of completion! One must simply fully participate in the externship; if an hour is missed, but no more than 2 hours, Dr. Jorgensen will assign a makeup assignment that must be completed.
There are current plans for advanced EFT training in person in India?
There is great interest among ICEEFT supervisors and trainers to provide more training to India online and hopefully at some point in India. In the way EFT has grown around the world the local interest in the learning and promoting the model includes on-the-ground support.
The next step in EFT training, Core Skills in EFT, is commonly done online and is always done in small groups. If there is enough interest Core Skills will be done to cater to Indian clinicians. If not, there are lots of other Core Skills online trainings you can join.
Is the content of the training the same as other ICEEFT sponsored externships?
Yes, TRIEFT is affiliated with ICEEFT and Dr. Jorgensen is an ICEEFT Certified EFT Trainer. This is an ICEEFT approved Externship. All ICEEFT approved externships provide the same externship material and content.
